Canadian parallel giant slalom rider Alexa Loo has followed last week’s silver medal at the 2010 LG Snowboarrd FIS World Cup in Kreishberg, Austria with another silver on the Europa Cup – all good prep for Sunday’s World Cup – a race that can clinch her a spot on the Olympic team, if she comes in with a top-five finish.
I spoke with Loo last summer in between chin-up sets (hers) when I visited the Canadian Pacific Sport Centre in Whistler for Mountain Life. She was focussed, motivated and scarily ripped, training six-hours-a-day to ensure she was in peak form for the Games. Looks like it’s paying off.
The Canadian women are kicking it this season – Loo is in 9th standing in PGS, Maelle Ricker is leading the points board overall for women, with teammate Dominique Maltais not far behind. As long as the snow gods smile on Cypress, the Canadian girls will have a chance to kick some serious ass.
As for the Alexa Loo chin-up challenge, at day 50 of the P90X, I can now do 4. National team recruiters aren’t knocking down my door…
